Grateful to Have Learned about the Tyndale, Geneva and Hebrew/Greek Interlinear Bibles

Hi -

For years, 1 Timothy 6:10 - KJV gave me pause. It says, "For the love of money is the root of all evil . . ."

It gave me pause because I thought that the love of other things could be a root of evil, as well. So how could love of money be the root of ALL evil, I wondered?

Well, recently I did some research and found that the first* Bible (about 1534) that was translated from the original Hebrew and Greek into English was NOT the King James Bible but the Tyndale Bible. William Tyndale was martyred for his faith and was able to complete the translation of the entire New Testament but only a portion of the Old Testament.*

I also discovered that the Geneva Bible (1560) was published before the King James Bible.

Now, my preference is to use the Tyndale and Geneva Bibles. The English in them is even older than what is shown in the King James Bible so I keep the KJV nearby in case I need help understanding the older English. The older English doesn't hinder me. I enjoy those two Bibles more . . . I'm NOT at all inclined to the newer translations.

Anyhow, back to 1 Timothy 6:10 - KJV
For the love of money is the root of all evil . . ."

Well, in the Tyndale Bible it says, "For coveteousnes is the rote of all evyll . . . "
( I didn't misspell the words. That is how they appear in that older version of English.)

THAT makes more sense to me -- the word "coveteousness." So in modern English -- it says, "For covetousness is the root of all evil." That makes more sense to me than that "the love of money is the root of all evil . . ." That ONE word made a difference. I'm glad to have learned that translation, as well as others that I've noted from reading the Tyndale and Geneva Bibles.

Reading those older Bibles along with the Hebrew and Greek Interlinear Bibles has helped considerably in my Bible studies. I highly recommend doing that.

Amazon has e-Book versions of the Tyndale and Geneva Bibles for less than $10.00 each. The Hebrew and Greek Interlinear Bibles are free online at www.scripture4all.org.
